MSc Advanced Practice

The MSc in Advanced Practice is open to practitioners working in health and/or social care context and who are engaged in developing their skills, knowledge and expertise for advanced practice. In particular the programme will be of interest to:

  • Registered Nurses who are aspiring to demonstrate achievement of NMC approved advanced practice competencies
  • Practitioners wishing to achieve competency in long term conditions and/or case management
  • Non medical registered practitioners aspiring to work within an advanced practice role, and, who may wish to achieve and demonstrate competency against their own professional body approved advanced practice competencies or via learning contract.

Structure of the Course

The MSc Advanced Practice is a flexible programme structured to provide core and option modules, tailored to the individual student profile. Prior to starting the course, each student will discuss their sphere of work, personal preference and professional aspirations in order to select appropriate modules and create an individual programme plan.

Assessment Methods

All assignments will have to meet criteria set for a Masters degree programme. Assessment methods will vary. All students will be expected to provide evidence of applied advanced practice within their work setting via an assessed portfolio.

Duration

Minimum 2-5 years part time

Entry requirements

• Recognised professional qualification and current professional registration

AND

• Can demonstrate at least 2 years full time experience or the equivalent in part time hours in health or social care employment

AND

• an honours degree from any University in the UK or Ireland

or at least one of the following:

  • an honours degree in an approved institution of higher education out side UK Republic of Ireland. Advice on equivalent status of over seas awards will e obtained from the National Recognition and Information Centre for the UK (NARIC) Certified translations of any certificates not in English language must be provided.
  • have successfully completed a stand alone module at level M
  • have completed stand alone module(s) at level 3 and normally obtained a minimum grade B or 60% pass

Fees

This programme is offered within the NHS Education contract to qualified health care practitioners in South West London, for academic year 2007/8.

Qualified health and social care practitioners employed outside South West London will be charged fees.
