The one-year programme will help you develop the skills needed to study Medicine.

This programme is designed to enable entry to Medical School for students who may not have the academic qualifications usually required but can demonstrate, through work experience and personal development, that they have the social and organisational skills and motivation needed to succeed in the study of medicine. Your academic background will need to be sufficient to allow you, following completion of this preparatory year, to successfully complete the remaining five years of the course (see Entry Requirements).

Entry Requirements

There is a minimum age requirement of 21 years on entry. The minimum academic qualifications required are GCSE passes or equivalent in Science (double award or individual subjects) together with Maths and English Language.

In addition, applicants must provide evidence of formal post-16 study; this can include professional qualifications and need not necessarily be in the sciences.

Applicants must have a minimum of three years’ work experience, with evidence of significant progression in a career path and involving regular interaction with the public.

This course is not available to graduates who should apply for the four-year Graduate Entry Programme or students who have A Levels or who are taking or resitting A levels. Candidates with A Levels should apply to MBBS5 (Five Year Programme).

This course is only open to home students who are UK or EU nationals and have been resident in the UK or EU for 3 years. We do not accept international students onto this course.

Number of Places Available: There will be 20 places available for entry in 2009.
